Football is finally here and we’re ready with our Week 1 Fanduel picks! In this post we’ll feature the players we love at each position and give you a list of value plays that should help you fill in the rest of your lineup.
Top Fanduel Picks – Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers, GB vs Chicago ($9700) – In 2014 the Bears defense was flat out awful and things don’t look that much better this year either. The loss of Jordy Nelson hurts Rodgers but the Pack have enough WRs to step in to the role and Rodgers shouldn’t miss a beat. He’s expensive but if you’re looking for a safe option he’s worth paying up for in this one.
Ryan Tannehill, MIA vs Washington ($8000) – The Dolphins have put together all the pieces to become ‘Eagles south’ and Tannehill should get a huge boost, especially vs a Redskins defense that couldn’t stop your grandmother.
Sam Bradford, PHI vs Atlanta ($7500) – I have a feeling everyone and their brother are going to have Bradford on their team in tournaments given his price tag but the Falcons D is terrible and Bradford has looked amazing this pre-season. Until he inevitably gets hurt I’m all on on Sammy B this year.
Tony Romo, DAL vs New York Giants ($8700) – If you’re looking for a high upside QB who should have a low ownership percentage then Romo is likely your guy. The Giants D is in a lot of trouble without JPP and the Cowboys don’t have a run game they can rely on this year. He could throw early and often.
Quarterback Value Picks – Matt Ryan vs PHI ($8800), Eli Manning vs DAL ($8300), Carson Palmer vs NO ($7700)
Top Fanduel Picks – Running Back
Eddie Lacy, GB vs Chicago ($8500) – Given his standard league draft value and outstanding matchup I’m surprised Lacy isn’t more expensive, but hey that’s our gain. If (when?) the Pack jumps out early they’ll fall back on Lacy to pound the rock in the second half and I can’t see the Bears D stopping him. Lacy will be on all of my Fanduel rosters in week 1.
Lamar Miller, MIA vs Washington ($7300) – Much of what I said about Tannehill holds true with Miller. He’s expected to see an increased workload this year in a high tempo offense. I’m expecting a big day from Miller in week 1.
Jeremy Hill, CIN at Oakland ($8600) – The Bengals are going to pound the rock all season and while I think Oakland’s defense is very much improved, Cincy has one of the best offensive lines in football and I don’t see how the Raiders slow Hill down. I can see multiple scores in Hill’s future, provided they don’t split with Gio Bernard.
Adrian Peterson at San Francisco ($9200) – Most fantasy owners assume the 49ers defense is good but most of their good players left or retired and this D has train wreck written all over it in 2015. AP has a chip on his shoulder after last year and should be a great play. The only question mark here is the price tag but if you can make it work I love the matchup.
Running Back Value Picks – Doug Martin vs TEN ($6900), Jonathan Stewart at Jax ($7100), Chris Ivory vs CLE ($6400)
Top Fanduel Picks – Wide Receivers
Dez Bryant, DAL vs New York Giants ($8700) – Last year Dez torched the Giants for 16 receptions, 237 yards and 2 touchdowns in their two meetings and it was clear the GMen had no answer for him. This year the Giants defense is arguably worse and Dallas is likely to throw more. I’m building my team around Dez in week 1.
John Brown, ARI vs New Orleans ($6000) – The Saints pass defense is one of the league’s worst and their best player, safety Jairus Byrd, may not play. Brown is in for a huge year this season and it starts this week. It’s unlikely his price tag is ever this low again.
Davante Adams, GB at Chicago ($5500) – With Jordy Nelson’s injury Adams gets thrust in to the envious position of catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. I have no doubt that one or both of Randall Cobb or Adams will have a huge day and at this low price tag I’m rolling the dice on Adams. My only concern here is high ownership in tournaments.
Julio Jones, ATL vs Philadelphia ($9000) – Any team who plays the Eagles is a good bet to find themselves in an offensive shootout and as one of the top 2 or 3 receivers in the game, Julio is primed for a big day. That said, as much as I would love to own him his price tag is going to scare me off a lot of teams but if you can afford him he could be in for a monster game.
Wide Receiver Value Picks – Terrance Williams, DAL vs NYG ($5300), Rueben Randle, NYG at DAL ($5300), Phillip Dorsett, IND at BUF ($4600)
Top Fanduel Picks – Tight Ends
Greg Olsen, CAR at Jacksonville ($5900) – The Panthers have a nice matchup against a vulnerable Jaguars defense but have absolute garbage at receiver so I expect Cam Newton to target Olsen early and often. Outside of Gronk (who plays Thursday) I expect him to be the number one tight end of the week.
Josh Hill, ATL at Arizona ($5200) – The Cardinals have historically struggled against the tight end and with Jimmy Graham in Seattle, Drew Brees needs someone to throw to. I don’t expect monster numbers out of Hill but at $5200 he only needs to put up a solid total to be worth it.
Jason Witten, DAL vs New York Giants ($5800) – Witten had a terrible year last season so I don’t expect him to be very highly owned but the Giants don’t have linebackers who can stay with Witten and I expect him to rack up a lot of receptions in this one. If he can find the end zone just once he’ll more than make up for his price tag.
Tight End Value Picks – Jordan Cameron, MIA at WAS ($5500), Kyle Rudolph, MIN at SF ($5300), Tyler Eifert, CIN at Oakland ($5000)
Top Fanduel Picks – Team Defense
New York Jets vs Cleveland ($4600) – The Jets defense has a lot of talent and Cleveland is a dumpster fire offensively. I don’t see any way Cleveland scores more than 10 in this one and there is a lot of turnover upside for Gang Green.
Houston vs Kansas City ($4500) – JJ Watt and the Texans defense have as good a chance as anyone to be this year’s top fantasy defense and the Chiefs offense scares nobody with Alex Smith under center. This should be a very low scoring affair on both sides.
Kansas City at Houston ($4300) – Much like I said in the Houston blurb this game should feature little to no offense and the Chiefs can get after the QB as well as anyone. Without Arian Foster to worry about the Chiefs should be in Brian Hoyer’s face all game long.
